it’s been a minute
Lizzo's newest bop "About Damn Time" has quickly inserted itself as a top contender for my song of the summer. The beat is catchy, the tiktok dance is (somewhat) accessible even for those of us who are choreographically challenged, and the lyrics are hopeful and fun.
One line always sticks out to me because it feels like a question I've wanted to answer:
"It's been a minute, tell me how ya healin'?"
I relate to this, because it has been a minute and I have been healing. For most of 2022, that's been my all-consuming focus. I was doing my usual hard-on-myself thing for not doing xyz or being more xyz, and conversations with loved ones have reminded me that my body has been recovering from covid (x2) for almost a year. As a collective, we are experiencing trauma and figuring out how to exist with broken hearts that don't get time to mend between blows.
This is all a lot and it's very normal and ok if you've still been finding it hard to operate in a way you're used to. Life is not normal right now.
So here's how I've been healing in 2022, thanks for asking @lizzobeeating
- Rest. A lot of true rest.
- Weekly acupuncture and supplements for hormonal support
- Weekly chiro. I tried a lotttttt of things and she's the one that finally pushed forward the healing of my sense of taste and we are almost there with my sense of smell.
- Soaking up the beauty and magic around me. Green leafy trees, flowers in bloom, sunlight.
- Journalling. My ride or die.
- Being around my people!!
- Preparing for Glass Full 2.0 and doing a lot of behind the scenes work to launch what's next into the world.
- Planning for the future with Mr. Glass Full. Choosing to plan and look ahead after/during so much uncertainty can feel scary, but for us it also feels necessary and healing.
As we reach the halfway point of this year, I feel grateful for the quiet time I've taken to focus on healing and the layers of privilege that allow me to do so. I can feel myself opening up and being ready for the next thing, and I'm grateful to have this community to heal with.
