More than Moments
You are not defined by singular moments.
Moments of fear, of rage, of anxiety, of hopelessness or even moments of joy, of bliss, of triumph, of strength. It's important to remember that we are separate from our thoughts and emotions, they are not who we are.
As I approach a milestone birthday, I'm working through the feelings that come up at this time. It's easy for me to fall into the trap of defining myself by a collection of moments - the things I have done or not done. The emotions I've stored, the stories I've let take control. The overpowering and recurring thoughts and patterns.
The only thing that defines me is my presence. The Observer within that's aware of the transience of each thought, feeling, memory. I choose to be part of these moments, to feel them and to pass through them safe in the knowledge that I am more than my moments.
And so are you.
